Jim Ashley: Why Rudy? November 22, 2007
This was a great column by Giuliani supporter Jim Ashley. Short and simply to the point.
Why Rudy?

Why Rudy?
Rudy Giuliani did an excellent job cleaning up New York City, as well as inspiring this great nation after 9/11/2001.
In cleaning up New York City, he had to do many things including taking on the mafia during his time as US Attorney for the Southern District of New York. He indicted eleven organized crime figures, including the heads of the “Five Families” under the RICO Act on charges including extortion, labor racketeering, and murder for hire.
Eight defendants were found guilty on all counts and subsequently sentenced on January 13, 1987 to hundreds of years of prison time. Also, I mentioned that he led and inspired New York City and this great nation after 9/11 which resulted in him being named the 2001 Time Magazine “Person of the Year.” His cleaning up NYC and making it safer is one of the reasons I “want to be a part of it… New York!”
I simply do not believe Fred Thompson is the “Conservative Messiah” that hard-right conservatives have been seeking out for this Presidential race. Unlike Giuliani, when Thompson speaks, he does not inspire me. On top of that, I find it rather sad that he had to ask for a round of applause (video here) while giving a speech in Iowa. When he first entered, his supporters were sounding like he was just going to automatically become the front-runner. That didn’t exactly happen, as Romney and Giuliani are leading polls in key states such as Iowa, New Hampshire and Michigan.
As far as I am concerned, if Mayor Giuliani “can make it there (New York City), he’ll make it anywhere.” I truthfully and honestly believe that Mayor Giuliani is the GOP’s best chance to defeat the Junior Senator from New York, Mrs. Bill Clinton.

By the way, folks, that video I referred to can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gt5YIJVwouE
I can’t believe that conservatives are slobbering from the mouth over one of the biggest liberals!
He wants to ban guns, increase ammunition tax 1000%, He cross dresses too much, he marches in gay pride parades and been married about 6 times, He is PRO CHOICE…He is our conservative choice?
What happened to FAMILY VALUES? Morality is shrinking and the conservative party looks the other way while the choose Rudy? He is not the moral leader or the constitutional leader this country needs.
What we have is two liberal parties in America.
It won’t matter which one is elected, Rudy will America down the same path as Hillary.
In Communist countries, you can only have 1 party. You can have 2 candidates run for an office but 1 party. We used to be 1 party shy of that, but I see that we are now only 1 party in america with two names.
What surprises me most is that people who are pointing this out are shunned, criticised, ignored, laughed at and even called a liberal. That one has knocked me back the first time I was called that. I was like what in the world…I can’t belive what our conservative party has become.
Oh, and the firefighters peice is called a hit peice. You brainwashed hatred of unions has made you judgemental. I’m not a big Union man but you’ve got to learn to listen and weigh the evidence. He’s Too questionable to be president.
I hope the truth comes out more as we need to preserve our country and constitution.
I appreciate Jim’s comments, but the conservative Rudy needs to worry about is Huckabee. He continually is moving up and has momeentum
GOD BLESS
BUDDY
H.R. 1096
repeals the Brady Hangun act and Federal License Reform Act of 1993, which are 2 invasive and unconstitutional bills.
H.R. 1897
would end the ban on carring a firearm in National Parks, giving our rights back to self defense.
H.R. 3305
would allow piolts to carry firearms to their jobs, possibly preventing another 9-11. (this is a real world step toward national defense)
H.R. 1146
Would end our membership to the United Nations, protecting us from the UN’s attempt to tax our guns and disarm america’s second amendment and soverignty.
ALL INTRODUCED BY RON PAUL.
Compare to Rudy’s record…its time to take a stand for America…NO COMPROMISE with liberalism.
At this point I am a supporter of Fred Thompson. However, Paul is deluging me with phone calls and junk mail.
I like the idea of Giuliani’s strenght and ability to call a spade a spade, but I can not reconcile his very liberal stands.
I’m also afraid Giuliani is the only one who can stop Clinton.
Morgantown supports Giuliani … imagine that.
I am a Mike Huckabee supporter. However, if General Election strength is the criteria, then McCain is down an average of 2% to Clinton in National Polls according to RealClearpolitics.com.
Rudy trails Hillary by an average of 2.7% Nationally.
We’re not electing a cheerleader here, folks. We’re electing a President. Everyone thought Thompson would be “the next Ronald Reagan” and he’s not. SO WHAT?! He’s right on the issues and is hands-down the single most substantive candidate in either party. He is a conservative from the Reagan/free market vein and this country desperately needs one in the White House.
FRED ‘08
If you call yourself a conservative, the only horse in the race is Duncan Hunter. He also happens to be the only veteran running on either side.
My fallback votes in priority order are:
1. Fred Thompson
2. Mike Huckabee
2. Mitt Romney
Unacceptable under any circumstances are:
1. Rudy Guiliani
1. John McCain

Thank you Aaron. You have nailed it. Dr. Paul is the ONLY worthy candidate in this race.
