500 Posts, 5,000 comments, new ads, biggest week ever March 18, 2008

Last week was one heck of a week at Changewv.com.  It was the largest readership week ever at Changewv.com!

And, today marks a significant milestone - one that I never dreamed I would reach.

Today’s entry is our 500th post.  Pheewww…

That’s a heck of a lot of writing, venting and ranting since we’ve started!

In addition, last week we recorded our 5,000th comment made to those 500 posts.

Thank you, changewv.com readers!

I always appreciate the people who come up to me and express their enjoyment of Changewv.com.  It’s very humbling and it always surprises me.

In the last week, I’ve had at least 15-20 people tell me its their first read in the morning and even a couple who said they normally check it out after midnight (when most commentaries - not this one, by the way - are posted).

As many of you may have noticed, we have started to sell ad space on our site, instead of the old ‘Google’ ads.

We show potential buyers a graph of our readership over the last year and its an amazing almost continual climb.  We are having thousands and thousands of readers each week tune in and hopefully get a chuckle over my vents and rants about state politics.  We hope our ad revenue (I’m a capitalist, first and foremost) will increase as businesses and candidates see the value of getting their message to business and political leaders who check us out.

One of our clients, Stewart and Company, saw their website traffic double, and nearly triple in the month they started advertising, so we hope we can do the same for other local businesses.

Thanks again for your readership.  I’ll do my best to keep you informed and entertained throughout the election season.

Your blog is eminently worth reading. AND, those who post comments are adults for the most part.

I am familiar w/ another blog which allowed postings to remain even after they were shown to be written by other than the purported author. Anyone who objected was subjected to the most vicious attacks by the owner and others on the blog. I think it will not last.

Not only are your subjects timely, informative and sometimes just plain fun, but are well written. Who would have “thunk it”–and that is not crickets chirping.

The discussion following the posting is also thoughtful and informative.

Thank you for this blog. Unlike so many, yours is worthwhile on a regular basis.

Congratulations, Senator! Your post is indeed my first read of the morning and I wish more WVians read this blog. You provide information and analysis that NO ONE else in this state provides and believe me, it’s the proverbial breath of fresh air.

    Keep up the good work!

p.s. (…and remember there are many of us who would cherish the opportunity to vote for you for Governor!)

Although I almost never agree with you, I enjoy reading your postings. Your commenters have also been willing to engage in intelligent examination of ideas (mostly), and I appreciate that.

I’m one of the “crazy libs” you point out so frequently, but I do actually enjoy your posts.

While I don’t agree with them normally, I can at least laugh at some of us in the liberal ranks. Unfortunately, our bloggers in the liberal world are often angry and hateful. Anger bores me, I struggle to read it.

I enjoy yours because at least you are humorous and sarcastic. I don’t think you take yourself too seriously, which is good, too many people who write blogs think they are IT!

So, keep up the good work, I’m sure you’ll make my blood boil soon, but that’s what makes your site interesting and entertaining.

Vic - wow, I didn’t realize you’ve been writing this blog for so long. Taht is awesome! Congrats!

You don’t often write about personal stuff, but I always enjoy it when you do, it gives us more insight into you and that’s enjoyable.

Of course, my favs are the ‘holy smokes,’ or ‘holy moley’ or the ‘Geez Louise.’ Those crack me up.

Being from Putnam County, my all time favorite is the Sleepy and Scary post where Brady Paxton said he stays in Charleston because he is afraid of dying on the trip back to Putnam County, I LOVE that post - it makes me laugh everytime I read it!

You are awesome Vic - keep up the good work!

You actually have me like Pavlov’s (sp?) dog.

You said in your email this week to look for something about Dan Foster and so I was thinking this morning, I wonder if he is writing about that today… and, then I’m like, wait, I’m thinking about Vic Sprouse’s blog over my coffee, am I going insane? Enjoy the blog, Vic, keep it up!

Congrats on 5000 posts. I also read your blog almost everyday, and there are very few days when we agree. I read your blog because I do like to get my blood flowing early in the morning. On the times we do agree I must go back and check to see if I am reading the right place.

Keep on fighting. It is good to see the struggle taking place even when you are wrong so very often-lol. It makes all of us stay on our toes.
