A Boettner beatdown March 14, 2008
Poor Ted Boettner.
He had to feel a little beaten by the end of last week.
First, you had my commentary exposing exactly who his group was (a labor-funded, left-oriented, non-economist led, political activist group potraying themselves as an alternative to Russ Sobel).
Before this, the Gazette was quoting their reports against tax cuts or really anything that would possibly shrink the growth in government as gospel. The Gazette quoted their “WV Center for Labor-funded Budgets and Liberal Policy Analysis” (ok, that’s not really their name, but something like that) as if it was some just do-gooder group with no agenda.
Then, after my column, Boettner went to the slaughter on Decisions Makers.
Poor kid.
Now, I’m not sure what his age is, but Boettner looks young for… oh, say, 20.
And, you have him facing off against Bray Cary on the show and getting whipped all over the place. It was like a Dad putting his son in his place across the kitchen table.
Bray was actually pretty nice. He did really treat Ted like he was this young guy who didn’t really know any better and simply sounded so silly that he wasn’t to be taken seriously.
The big question that simply can’t be answered by any liberal is IF you were a business owner and you could locate in Huntington or Parkersburg or right across the river in Ohio why would you ever locate in West Virginia?
Boettner’s response? (that’s crickets chirping)
The problem with Boettner is he simply spouts the same lines over and over because his talking points are so weak. It wasn’t nearly as fun as watching Bray skewer Nancy Guthrie who continued to spout unintelligible quotes that simply made no sense.
My favorite Guthrie quote was where she said “everyone says free markets work best, but what they forget is the hrase at end of that sentence, free markets work best when regulated for excess.”
Huh?
Of course, no one other than Nancy and whoever told her that idiotic ending has ever heard any major economist of note say that free markets are best when regulated heavily by the government. Why? Well, because free markets AREN’T free markets when regulated.
At least Boettner knew what was coming and simply came back to the same points over and over and didn’t go off on these crazy tangents like Guthrie.
How would you like to be a regular Democrat out there outside the political realm?
And, you see your leadership made up of Mike Caputo, Tim Manchin, Nancy Guthrie and now “tax cuts are bad” Ted Boettner.
Geez Louise.
Maybe that’s why the No Party Preference party is growing by leaps and bounds in the state.
You have to credit Bray, though. At least he is doing his part to trot out the crazies in the Democratic party.
And, the great thing is these folks TRULY represent the ideals and teachings of the Gospel of Government as espoused by TRUE Democrats.
Do we really think that Even Jenkins, Mike Oliverio, heck even Joe Manchin represent the core of the Democratic party leadership?
No way.
The leadership core is made up of the crazies. The Nancy Guthrie’s and Ted Boettners of the world. Thankfully, Bray is showing the Democrats for who they truly are.

Vic,
I also shook my head in amazement when I watched last week’s Decision Makers. All I can say is that I hope that young man did not graduate from one of West Virginia’s universities….if he did, then maybe some of what they say about us is true.
Well get ready for more of the left-wing, government-loving claptrap on the national level, because our insane nation is about to elect another leftist named Barack Obama to the Presidency.
Then the whole nation can be like WV!
Funny you say that BK, I just got off the phone with a friend who just moved from Charleston to DC who remarked that, pretty soon, its not going to be so lonely being a West Virginian. With either Hillary or Obama people across the country are going to feel what it’s like to be a conservative-libertarian living in an anti-business socialist system.
