Barack Hussein Obama: The best news in a long time for WV Republicans March 24, 2008

With Barack Hussein Obama’s visit to West Virginia last week, you would have thought he was winning West Virginia by 25 points.

Instead, he is losing to Hillary by a whopping 55/27 margin according to the latest Rasmussen Poll (this poll confirms the poll a week early by Mark Blankenship that mirrored the results).

But, what’s even more shocking is taking a look inside the numbers and just how GREAT the news is for West Virginia Republicans.

First, I just love calling Obama by his FULL name.  You have to love it.  And, the reason is because it causes hardcore Democrats to go nearly beserk when his full name is used.

It will be the first time in the history of the country the people aren’t allowed to use the middle name of their own President without being accused of racism.  But, Hussein is Obama’s middle name.  He should embrace it, after all, I do.

But, back to the poll.

Wow, it had to send shivers down the spine of West Virginia Democrats to look at this poll especially when it looks like a near mathematical impossibility for Hillary to win the Democratic nomination.

Without a widespread defection of superdelegates and without the Democrats annointing Hillary over someone who has won more states, won more delegates, and won the popular vote, there is no way Hillary can win.

Of course, Republicans would absolutely love the irony of the Democrats awarding their nomination to someone who LOST the popular vote of their primary after their near meltdown over Al Gore’s defeat in 2000.

But, again, back to the numbers.

And, here is the absolute whopper.

Hillary holds 55% of West Virginia Democrats.  Of those 55%, the number who would switch their vote in the general and vote for Obama is stunning low.  In fact, I’ve never seen numbers this low for any presidential primary.

Of the 55% of West Virginia Democrats supporting Hillary, a stunning 35% said they are NOT AT ALL likely to vote for Obama should he win the nomination.

Kapow!

35% of HILLARY backers said they won’t vote for Obama.  Period.  And, these are the party faithful.  Ouch.

Another 18% said they are NOT VERY LIKELY to vote for Obama.  Double ouch.

So, 53% of Hillary voters, the hard core of the hard core of the Democratic faithful, will not vote for Obama.

These are stunningly poor numbers for Obama and are showing how quickly the novelty is wearing off his candidacy.

Of course, to see his turnout last week, you wouldn’t think he would be trailing badly in the polls.

Young people lined up for hours.  And, I think that is great.  Obama appeals to those people not really watching the political process because he is like a great commercial.  He sells an easy solution to our country’s problems - “change.”  After all, who’s against “change?”

And, of course, not a soul in the crowd who went to see him even knows what ‘change’ he is talking about, but they are for whatever it is.

Republicans have been concerned with Obama.  They were concerned over his popularity and his ability to stay above the fray and not have anything really stick to him.

And, then…  kaboom… the ‘3am commercial’ in Texas and Ohio that asked who you would want picking up the phone in the White House at 3am if there is a world crisis.  Of course, you can bet that commercial is coming back around again because the real answer is John McCain.

I’m not sure what exactly qualifies Hillary to pick up the phone…. I don’t know maybe hosting other first ladies for crumpets and tea somehow qualifies her to pick up that phone in a world crisis, or maybe she dealt with international terrorists during her days as first lady of Arkansas.

After all, I know Gayle Manchin is often on the phone working through the State Department trying to put out fires throughout the world in her role as first lady of West Virginia.

But, that just goes to show you how little experience Obama has when HILLARY… yes, HILLARY for goodness sakes, is considered more ready to deal with an international incident.

McCain will simply scorch Obama or Hillary on this and many other issues.

But, for West Virginia Republicans, there is good news all around.  Hillary is a horrible candidate, hates coal, supports liberalism and socialism and is lightning rod for conservatives to come out and work until election day.

There isn’t that same fervor among Republicans against Obama, but the great news is there won’t need to be because more than 50% of Hillary supporters will not support him, period.

That means a win of at least 10% if not 13% or more for John McCain in West Virginia which makes every other candidate under McCain walk around with a big smile on their face.

Barack Hussein Obama is the best news to come down the pike in a long time for West Virginia Republicans.

I met Obama. He has Charisma to BURN.

So, having met the man, I dug into a book of his. He is Left of Hillary. Really. I wonder what policies he will shift on to try and win the General.

Hillary scares me, not that she might win the Demo nomination, but she is mean. Mean and scary.

Living in West Virginia all my life and my job exposing me hundreds of diverse West Virginians (mostly Democrats), it is no surprise to me that Hillary leads Obama by a wide margin here.

I’ll not go into the reason for this other than to say, feeling run deep from West Virginia’s Southern roots and traditions.

I would say that if Obama runs against McCain, West Virginia will be a red State again this November by a wide margin and you will see far fewer straight ticket pullers.

Right or wrong, it is just the reality here in West Virginia

Let’s keep the Democrat party split right down the middle, folks! I love it! I hope it’s 1968 all over again. God knows America just can’t afford the irresponsible policies of both Dem candidates both at home and abroad.

I heard, via a radio clip, Obama, in Charleston, declaring that we were paying higher gas prices BECAUSE of the war in Iraq. Say what????

Yep, our oil problems are because a Republican president dared to care about saving this country from terrorist/terrorist state activities (as suggested he do in the US Constitution). In doing so, he freed the people of an oil rich country.

However, we get most of our oil from Canada…. I am certain, of course, that high prices have nothing to do w/ the oil speculation market, OR NOT drilling in ANWAR (which is frozen tundra and not the pictures of Mt. McKinley we usually see portrayed as ANWAR and the drilling would affect only a few thousand acres of the vast area), OR NOT drilling off our own shores (while the Chavez and “Castro” and Mexico drill there and put their straws in to suck out OUR oil), OR not allowing new refineries, OR mandating a gazillion formulas…..

No, our troubles are ALL George W. and the war in Iraq. Nice try.

And how would Obama protect the US as the Constitution mandates the President to do? (That’s crickets chirping).

    Let Operation Chaos continue.

To BK,…and America can afford four more years of the “responsible” actions of the present administration. I could not imagine any thinking person advocating that we continue with the failed policies of the Bush era. A future McCain “era” advocates more of the same. You talk about a disaster for America.

Its a shame! This country IS heading for harder times as long as we support liberals and conservatives!

Both parties are destroying this country even though both parties think they have the solution. Their solutions? BIG GOVERNMENT.

Both parties are for Socialized Healthcare which is just a way to introduce communisum in America. Once our Government heathcare is passed then you’ll really see your personal lives micromanaged. No more freedom.

Both parties have supported amnesty or a version of it. Neither party has allowed an aggressive defensive assault on our borders. Remember the alamo!

Both parties are politically correct in voting.

Both partes support extreme environmentalism! This is another form of government control over corporations. This will destroy our power and soverignty.

Both parites are supporting of the U.N. their sanctions. We are adopting U.N. law as our own. I Know someone that lost their land in WV to international amnesty.

Again I MET SOMEONE THAT LOST THEIR LAND IN WV TO INTERNATIONAL AMNESTY!!! Our president has sold American down the road just like Clintons.

Both parties believe in multiculturalism which is a way to divide and conquer. As long as you divide your American culture you will have clash. A divided country will fall. Read history.

Both parties are NOT supporting Christianity as our foundation. We are exporting our Faith along with our jobs. Look at the Christian revivals in parts of Africa. 4 million plus! We are vain, we have watered down messages in our mainstream American churches. The American church is losing its voice!

The republican led congress and our Republican president have spent more $$$ than any liberal.

We are in self destruct mode until you voters learn that conservatives and liberals are taking us to the same POINT B in the near future while nit picking minor differences. Wake up!

ITS TIME TO BECOME CONSTITUTIONALISTS! NOT LIBERAL OR COSERVATIVE.

(www.constitutionparty.com) 3rd largest party in America and growing fast!!!! Don’t be the last one on board when you realize how big its is becoming.

The catalist that created the Republican party when it was a 3rd party is the same again today. They counted out the Republican party just like you will count out the Constutional party.

God bless us in these harder times to come.

    RFM,

As Mikey points out, those policies you call “failed” have kept this nation safe from a terrorist attack for almost 7 years, gave us 52 consecutive months of economic growth (a record), peacefully got North Korea out of the nuclear game, and given taxpayers more of their money back just to name a few accomplishments.

I am not prepared to see America creep further down the socialist path. There is nothing “progressive” about socialism. It is a failed 20th century political philosophy that minimizes the individual and runs counter to the human spirit. Both Obama and Clinton propose, in general, a watered-down version of socialism. In short, they believe there is nothing wrong with America that more government can’t cure. It literally is their solution to every problem facing the nation right now.

On the other hand, I believe there is nothing wrong with America that more freedom and self-reliance can’t cure. I want free market solutions to the health insurance problem, not government solutions. I want to see our economy rise again because taxpayers were permitted to keep more of the money we earn. I want a government that is reduced in size and a SMALLER number of Americans dependent on the federal government for their livelihood. (I admit Bush has failed in the last regard.)

Socially, financially, and in terms of foreign policy, no…America cannot afford the expensive and freedom-killing solutions offered by Obama and Clinton.

Most importantly, our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan deserve to be allowed to WIN and not be forced to surrender to terrorists in front of the entire world. The benefits of having a stable ally in the heart of the middle east are too great to allow those who have died to die in vain by withdrawing troops before they accomplish their mission.

The best news for West Virginia Republicans? It is that folks who are hoping Hillary will win have you to do their propeganda for them.
now you know there have been many times, i fct the majority of times that i ahve visited your site to agree with you. However in this instance i see that you are doing the Limbaugh jig.
Drum up support for Billary because she is the easiest candidate for McCain to beat.
Barack Obama, whose name nmeans “Blessing” is the best candidate that has run in either party for over forty years.
Individuals who actually get past the right wing Clintonite-bashing and the usal far right Republican outright lies and racism, will find that in Obama a candidate who will ensure that our nation works for all of us again. That our country is a nation of people who come together for the common good:’ie:
***Insurance that actually pays off the damages, and doesn’t simply enroich the Mafai fraud artists and the corporations thats ell it
***Hospitals and medical care that is affordable and good quality
***Pensions that one pays into and gets back without fraud and theft by the company CEOS seeking ever greater riches in their unstoppable greed
***Good jobs here at home and safe schools that work to prepare us for them
    ***an end to a misguided bloody and tragic invasion of Iraq and return to fighting Al Quaida in Afghanistan ;
****Loyalty to friends family and others with whom we may disagree but whom we still loe without constant intrusion of political correctness that actually seeeks to divide us by issues rather than unite us and elevate us through compassion and love
****Find ways to fix the economy that allow families and individuals to live on a single income so most caregiving parents do not HAVE to work to survive but can afford to stay home, and single poeple can ahve the quality of life as good as their grandparents…instead of worse than their poorest ancestors.

THOSE ARE Obama’s stances and he has the leadership ability and the resourcses to unite Americans togther to work out these problems. The Republicans have swung to him in droves in many states….

No one but the nost racist and religiously bigoted among us will care if his middle name is Hussain, when he helps USa to shine again as a fair, just, free and responsible nation instead of a cheating lying brutally torturing global and domestic mess.

I would say that Barack Obama shows the regular people, the intellectuals and the mderate republicans who do not want an oligarchy but a Republis, who want to restore a democracy with safety net and get rid of the plutocracy where the rich are the only winners and everyones else is desperate, that we can take our nation back.

I think the national republican party members who actually know Obama know this : he has a a capcity that will help our torn up nation tobest and brightest in the world.and they are afraid. they are very afraid of Barack Hussain Obama.

McCain is the only one who has knowledge regarding foreign affairs. I don’t want to see four more years of Bush policies. We need to bring Christian values back in our country and our GOVERNMENT MUST SHRINK!!! Let the American public have its own money. Cut government budgets by 10% per year for the next 3-4 years. Unfortunatly we’ve been set up. Our troops can’t win this war.

This wasn’t designated to be won. You can’t defeat an enemy called “terrorism”.

This war was started to usher in a new financial global government. I can’t say the Bush knows he was a puppet or if he knew what he was doing.

In the end, this war isn’t one for the defense of American constitution or our liberties. It is to begin a new era in the world. One that will be the death of us. We should have never meddled in the Middle East. But that PADORAS BOX has been opened.

God Bless the hard years now to come because of Bush, clintons, liberals and Conservatives, they are the destroyers of America.

    Mr./Ms. Carroll:

All those goals you posted, the supposed goals of Obama, they all sound great. That is, they all sound great until one begins to ask questions like: a) How will the federal government PAY for all this? b) Do we REALLY want the federal government so intrusively involved in the daily lives of Americans; i.e, providing health care, dictating to businesses how much they can pay, etc.? c) If we withdraw troops from Iraq (i.e. surrender), how will we prepare for an attack by Al-Qaida launched from Iraq? How will we help the Israelis prepare for such an attack?

No, the paradise Mr. Obama is promising comes at far too high a price. His economic plan would bring this nation to its economic knees. If you think it’s so all-fired bad right now, imagine what it will be like when Obama and a Democratic Congress reverse the ACROSS-THE-BOARD Bush tax cuts; thereby removing all that capital from our economy. Imagine how bad it will be when Obama discovers that he will need to raise taxes and create a whole new government bureaucracy to fund and execute his government-run health care system. Imagine small business men and women being forced out of business because they can’t pay the consfiscatory taxes. Unemployment skyrockets. The tax base shrinks.

Is all this damage to our nation worth voting for someone based SOLELY on the basis of his race? Unfortunately, this seems to be what the majority of African-Americans are doing. I wonder if they would be so enthused if Mr. Obama was a Republican?

Frankly, I don’t care what color he is. A creeping socialist liberal is a creeping socialist liberal regardless of race, gender or any other characteristic. Liberalism is bad for America and Obama (and Hillary for that matter) is proposing something beyond liberalism. It’s actually watered-down (not so much really) socialism. You’ll note my assessment of socialism in my previous post.

George Bush is the worst president this nation has had in the last 100 years. His decision making is based on personal whims rather than what is best for this country.

His decision to go into Afghanistan was absolutley right after 911. His pursuit of Osama was the right thing to do. He would have had a great legacy at that point. However, his decision to go into Iraq was more to vindicate Dad than it was for anything else.He thought a few million spent on bombs and missiles would cause the Iraqies to fold their tents and run. Wrong.

His excuse was al-Quaida. Al-Quaida had NO foothold in Iraq. Why? Sadaam had iron fist control over Iraq and al-Quaida was a threat to him. They could not use Iraq as a launching pad. But not anymore.

Bush’s cronies have reaped billions of dollars from cheating and theivery in Iraq. His oil buddies are living in royal palaces in the safety of the US. His contractors have now gone off-shore or elsewhere to aviod US taxes on their corrupt profits.

We have now reached 4000 casulties in Iraq plusthousands if young Americans whose lives will be embitterd forever. The veterans of this ghastly war are being treated horribly by an uncaring administration. The Pentagon is being run by selfish, uncaring bureaucrats.

The world today is a much more dangerous world because of the Bush administration. General Powell was excluded for the decision making process when decisions about Iraq were being made.
Why? The Bushies had to create an excuse for Iraq and he wouldn’t have bought into it.

A vote for McCain is a vote to continue the policies of America’s worst president.

The real problem is we don’t have a candidate that can solve this mess.

God Bless America, He is the only one that can help us!

    Disappointed.

    Aminah Yaquin Carroll,

You need to take a minute and go back and read the US Constitution….specifically the tenth amendment. Your long laundry list of things that the government should control are not included as items that our Constitution allows the Federal Government to manage.

Another thing, you seriously ask us to read a New York Times article expecting us to find the “truth”? They wouldn’t know the truth if it hit them in the ass.

  20. Mikey March 24th, 2008 at 5:35 pm | Permalink

They asked Obama what was causing $ 3.25 gas and his answer… George Bush invaded Iraq.

Never mind that Obama and his Liberal Democrat buddies have blocked every attempt to drill for oil on our soil (and under our coastal waters).

The Demo-socialists believe that if they cut off oil by raising the price to the breaking point, we will some how learn to function without it. The Dems know that a new tax on gas wont fly so they let the Enviro-wackos lead the charge to not drill nor build new refineries. Keeps the Enviro lobby happy (which keep dollars flowing to the Dems) and opens the door for more and more Government control of our lives. THIS is the goal, make no mistake.

The concern should not be who would receive that call at 3am, but who will be called subsequent to it. After all, some Operations Center in State or Defense will be making the call and you can bet they will be offering some options. The problem becomes whether Hillary can find Bill, or whether Barack will be calling Jeremiah!

  22. RFM March 24th, 2008 at 7:28 pm | Permalink

I am amazed that anyone who could support Bush’s failed policies, could with a straight face attack the Dems for being too expensive. I am also afraid that you are very mistaken about Americans being safer. Tell your comments to the families of 4000 of our young men and women who died in this war being fought, I am afraid, more for ego than security. Tell that to Americans who are now more exposed to terrorism than anytime before 9/11 due to the hatred and disrespect created for our great nation by “W”’s failed policies.

Again I ask on whose watch did 9/11 take place? My friend don’t lecture me about security and financial well-being when you are so wrong and misguided. Under the failed policies of this administration we have had neither security or financial well-being. In fact the Republicans have one thing that they can be happy about under this adminstration and that is that “W” has managed to make Herbert Hoover look good.

WEll in response to the simplistic assumption that big giovernment is republican and small governemnt is democratic party all we have to do is look at both Bush the II and Clinton both of whose presidencies are disastors and eachof whom was for teh richest iin the world, not fro properity for all Americans.
Obama doesn’t have to grow government larger to problem solve. All he has to do is work with teh best and brightest and cross the partsian barriers, the race barriers, the gender bariers, the redneck barriers and etc etc. The constructs of polarization by issue instead of uniting for common cause have been ahrming us as a nation for years.
Barack Obama is a patriotic, able and intelligent HONEST leader who can and will get ideologies out fo the way in order to bring the ebst and brightest together to help solve the probelems the ast two adminstrations have exacerbated.
yes one of the mis big intrusive and dishonest big governemnt. but that is not the way our governemnt used to be. let’s look at Bush I for an example. he was actually a terrific president. i would say teh last one we ahvehad that was even halfway decent and honorable and honest and respectful of ordinary Americans.
the problems we have MUST be solved by our citizens using teh mechanisms of government to rrestore balance and prosperity. Each party, sect and individual ahs some values in thsi picture and the picture is of a USa with US in it.
the way things are going or great democratic experiment will fail and we will end up under the Chinese real soon.
we need to stop faulting political parties and assume responsibility for coming together as citzens who love our land, value children and see that there are many different ways to think tank promlem solutions and not only one person party or ideology ahs the answer. we worked best when ordinary poepl had the American Dream opportunity for real.
hard working people didn’t get shafted and see their jobs go abroad, manufacrturing was a vital american business. we have now so much cheating and lying going on in government and in business. cover your butt has become the primary rule for service provison, not “i’ll make my mistake right as best i can adn i am sorry>’ i am so excited that we have in opur lifetime one of athe nation’s alltime greats: a person who can help elevate the coversation adnn the process, while being honest and accountable. Hooray for Obama.
and Hooray for a rejuvenated USa wher we don’t send outr money offshore to gangsters and crooks and the top .005 percent of the world, but we invest in good government, good organizations , good communities and neighborhoods. no more cops on the rtake, that ahs to come from chnage within and HOPE that in their lifetime they will see they are risking their lives for their community and have got sufficent pay and resources HONESTLY to nake ends neet with dignity.
let’s treat ouyur returning ehroes as if we value and cherish them, not spit on them and let them suffer or have to be geniuses to figure out how ot get ehalth care and housing when ill etc.
i am sorry this is rambling a little i hope you get the oint:
our natyion is FULL of can do people with great ability in every family neighborhood city town and state community. why don’t we figure out how to chnage our ATTITUDES and out BEHAVIORS and our STUPID SPENNDING rashly (mainly about 85 5of our budget goes to the Pentagon where no on cooperates and they all fight each other for turf and ego) and build up our nation’s strength by doing the right thing for a change!
i am thrilled with Obama but i also respect McCain. Honesty and bravery come from the top and spread out. McCain is far to the right of me but he is an honest decent able brave anerican hero.
but he could work with President Obama better because he is used to war but Obama has the know-how to build peace and security and prosperity at home and abroad.i think Obama is our Churchill. Our Mandela. Oure Washington and Lincoln of this century . i hope to God we give him and ourselves a chance to bring back the wonderful American experience.

What is amazing…. The more history I read about the founding fathers more I realize that I’m not a conservative.

IT’s ALL WRONG!!! WE’VE GOT IT WRONG!

    Democrats are really classic Marxists.

Rebuplican.conservatives are really just the status quo party. Where ever the political line is they say,”we need to stay here, we don’t need to do what the democrats want.” When the Dems move the line toward the marxist ideolgy they move with the line and declare “we don’t need to move, stay here”. Conservatives will never bring us to a constitutional limited government and some of their ideologies are also socialist now!!

In the 90’s the conservatives fought against gov. health care and extreme environmntal laws, etc. now they talk about it as if it is the new platform. Now they spend more than the marxists etc, etc.

What we need are CLASSIC LIBERALS from Jeffersons party! Liberty of the people from Big government.

We need limited government, less taxes, a government of the people by the people. A humble foreign policy. We don’t need to pull our government to the right or the left BUT TO THE CONSTITUTION.

But hey I’m a patriot kook

    2. Republicans like to use fear. There’s lots to fear about Obama. He’s black or maybe he’s white or something in between. OK, forget it he’s black enough to make him black. Black people are scary. Muslims are too! Obama is a Muslim AND a Christian. Wow! He goes to that church with that crazy preacher who says 911 was because God was punishing the gays. Oops! That was John Hagee or was it Rod Parsley?…it was one of John McCain’s guys I know.

    3. Republicans like to divide the country (you’re either for us or against us). What’s the saying? Divide and conquer. Yep, this has worked for Republicans in the past too. Dividing the country between blacks and whites and Christians and Muslims and liberal and conservative and…..

    4. Even without all those strategic moves McCain can win. Everyone will want to vote for McCain because he says he doesn’t care if we are in Iraq for 100 more years…and of course because of those wonderful tax cuts for the top 1%. Everyone will want to vote for his vast foreign policy on the Sunnis or is it the Shia’s-they are so easy to confuse when you’re talking about the insurgency. I’m sure the American people will shout, “Bring him on!”

They will micormanage every part of your life!!!

What you do in your home, what you eat, where you go.

It is the ultimate in big government plan. Hillary knows what she’s was doing in the 90’s.

IF ANYONE WILL LISTEN…MCCAIN AND THE REPUBLICANS ARE ON BOARD WITH THIS PLAN ALSO.

We need constitutional government!!!! Get out of the Democrat and Republican party.

I got out of the republican party after almost 20 years.
