Embrace the Insanity: Ron Paul is coming to town February 1, 2008
Maybe it’s time…
Maybe it’s time to embrace the insanity that is the Ron Paul campaign…
After all, he is coming here… he is most likely the ONLY candidate coming here.
Maybe it’s time to just go crazy and simply embrace the kookiness and the divergent groups that have come together to make up the core of the Paul campaign.
Signs should be hung at our city’s entrances….
Welcome 70s hippies!
Welcome Bush-haters!
Welcome Peaceniks!
Welcome Decriminalization of Drugs crowd!
Let’s just go all out and enjoy it!

What insanity. What a kook.
Imagine wanting to roll back Big Government, cut taxes and get Government out of every facet of our lives.
I don’t think an WV Democrats will be at his rally.
“They’re coming to take me away, ha-ha
They’re coming to take me away, ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-ha to the funny farm, where life is beautiful all the time and I can sit and just twiddle my thumbs and THEY’RE COMING TO TAKE ME AWAY, HA-HAAAAAAAAAA!!”
Going to see the guys at the National Alliance camp, no doubt.
Ron Paul can only serve to hurt us in this convention, the more supporters he gets, the more likely, Wv is bound to suffer serious embarrassment.
All I can say, if WV is looking for a conservative then look at Romney, if they are looking for a leader to beat the Dems, then look to McCain, but for God’s sake, lets not be the only state in the US that goes for the Wacko Ron Paul!
While Ron Paul may have some good ideas such as rolling back the size of government, he falls in the Kooky basket when starts to talk about going back to the gold standard.
He looses so much credibility tring to push Libertarian views using a “Republican” name.
Lisa you wrote:

If you had, in your pocket right now, 1 once silver cerificate (paper saying you own silver) it would be worth 16 federal reserve dollars. Now if you had this all week, it would have gone UP 40 cents in fed. reserve note value yesterday. How much money did your Dollars make in interest yesterday?
That’s why the gold and silver system is way better. YOU NEVER LOOSE WEALTH.
A coffee would cost you 10 cents in silver certificate.
Well shoot, I’m a little disappointed. I thought sure as the world there’d be 80 posts on here by now (4:42 p.m.) from Paulistas touting their (ahem!) “conservatism” and talking about how we’re all a bunch of raving socialists/Nazis/Stalinists/imperialists/mind-numbed robots/Hannity parrots/Hitlers/etc.
Maybe they’re all too busy getting ready for the arrival of their messiah. I sure hope the trilateral commission doesn’t screw up his visit! We all know how they conspire against those who dare tell the truth about them. (insert theme from S.W.A.T. here)
Okay, I’ll appease and post.
I’m not a hippie,
I’ve never touched a drug,
I hate anti-war protestors/liberals
I voted for Bush twice, but realized that the conservativism that I had believed in thru Rush etc. was very facist until studied the history of what our founders said.
The message is clear: Cut taxes, cut spending, salvage our economy on the gold standard, push for a transparent government to the people, Stop illegal immigration with a stern hand, bring jobs back to America. Stop attacking every government that insults us with our military (show a little intelligence like Regean did, 1,600 missles aimed at us from Russia and we didn’t go to war with them, 1 missle from Iran and Bush wants to talk of war…that is cowardly)
If you listen to most republicans they sound like cowards and not americans. “OH, we better fight ‘em our we;ll all die!!!!! They’re coming to kill us, send the troops to save us!!!!) That’s not an America virtue and it doesn’t show strength.
….and you wonder why the republican party is losing membership fast.
So what does that make me? A kook in your eyes.
Sad, but I’ll stick to the constitution, the founders, and the vision of the founders.
God Bless
Vic -
There you go again.
This was a totally unfair post.
Even if he is not your cup of tea, Ron Paul is to be admired.
*puts down the doobie*
yeah, man, Ron Paul….
/sarcasm
While we may not be getting McCain, Romney, or Huckabee to visit on Super Tuesday, I’m surprised that even the 4th place candidate is going to show up with 22 other choices that day.
Since most of the national news is not even acknowledging West Virginia is selecting a presidential candidate Tuesday, maybe Ron Paul’s visit will at least get the convention the acknowledgment it deserves in the press.
Actually, according to a Yahoo article, Gov. Romney will also be addressing our convention before heading to Massachusetts to vote.
I am sorry West Virginia is not getting the attention and that the other candidates are not coming. I am still supporting Mike Huckabee and still feel he has a chance to win our convention and the nomination.
While I do not support Dr.Paul, I believe he should get more respect than he is getting. I do apprecite him being willing to come to our convention.
I also would like to remind all Giulianni and Thompson delegates that if you would come to Huckabee and we could get a portion of the uncommitted we could win.
If you support the FAIR TAX Huckabee is your man.
GOD BLESS
BUDDY
I just want to know how difficult it is for the Paulistas to drive around town without spilling bong water on the car seats…
A Glen Johnson article on http://www.townhall.com says Romney “plans to address” our Convention. Is that no longer the case?
This article is dated Saturday,February 2.
Most conservatives agree with most of ron paul except the war. But this is the reason we must look closer at the war.
It is not my place to hold other soverign nations to a code of ethics, but as a citizen of America we have a duty to hold our own country to a code of ethics lest we implode ourselves. But some criticize when a citizen does this as if he hates his country, on the contrary, I love America and want it to do well, in conscience and constitution.
There are evil people all around the world. We can not fight the whole world, we just don’t have enough military to do that. But the Bush administration thinks we can.
The threat to use our military against other countries is not as much of a threat anymore.
We must be more sauve in our approach to conflict in the world lest we fall like Rome. If we would become so arrogant that we think we can squash any country when we want and always win, without consciense then we are no longer a just society.
Our government has become a geator threat than the the enemies they have sworn to protect our freedoms from.
Our government has become a geator threat than the the enemies they have sworn to protect our freedoms from.
Our government has become a geator threat than the the enemies they have sworn to protect our freedoms from.
Although I disagreed with the Constitution…remember, I said, “I smelt a rat” and didn’t attend the Constitutional Convention…However, a commitment to and limitation of the federal government to the Constitution, the mixed bag it is (combination of good biblical reasoning and bad enlightenment reasoning), is certainly far more prudent than a flight from the rule of order and law, which is the Constitution. I see one candidate exercising prudence and restraint of the federal government. But I grieve at the disdain for this man and the self-trust and pride of some, which will inexorably lead to their fall, as the eternal law book reveals. May it not be said that ‘he’ (little ‘h’…this man is running for President, not Savior) came unto his own (The American people… descendants of the founding fathers) and his own received him not. Consider and ponder please. Think before you speak or write with disdain and arrogance. You may be speaking against your own self-interest.
Yeah, Ron Paul is coming. Perhaps if he says or does something odd, our convention will get some attention on February 5. Otherwise it will be a bust.
I am political news junkie. I watch talk shows on Fox, MSNBC, CNN and the networks every day. I have yet to hear any of them mention WV except to list it as one of the states participating in “Super Tuesday” or to show it on a map of states in play that day. Not a mention of the convention, candidates efforts in the state, the number of delegates to be won - nothing! Our convention is a non-event in eyes of the national media.
For months now the state GOP and activists have devoted all thier attention/energy to this convention. In meantime they failed to recruit/entice candidates for the election. In 2008 the WV GOP will run its least competitive campaign in a decade.
We have candidates competing for only 58 or 100 House of Delegates seats, and many of those are weak candidates. We even have districts currently represented by Republicans where no Republican has filed. On the Senate side, things are a little better, but many of those who have filed are not likely to run strong campaigns.
Contrast this with 2004 when candidates filed for every seat in the legislature. I say let’s forget about this convention in the future and get back to the business of contesting elections.
Aaron has way too much time on his hands. Is it just me, or does Ron Paul look a little like a chimpanzee (not to mention that it seems that everyone in the room rolls thier eyes when he speaks during debates.)…maybe you have to be smoking a big doobie to appreciate his thought patterns.
Yes! Ron Paul is coming. That means WV Republicans will finally be able to hear from a REAL REPUBLICAN, instead of opportunistic RINOs like Vic Sprouse.
Lisa here must think Ronald Reagan was a kook, too.
After all, it was Reagan who picked Ron Paul to launch the US Gold Commission and said that no great nation that goes off the gold standard remains great.
She also must think Reagan was a kook for “tring [sic] to push Libertarian views using a ‘Republican’ name”. After all, it was Reagan who said, “When you analyze it, I believe that libertarianism is the very heart and soul of conservatism.”
WELL I have heard for a year now about how much we would be in the National Spotlight with our Convention. I have NOT heard West Virginia mentioned as far as having an election on Tuesday. Bob Fish and Doug McKinney have tooted this as being a big media event for the press and a big boast for WV. WRONG we are an also ran state and you are right the covention has been a mess from top to bottom and continues to be. Who might me there??? Maybe Romney and Maybe Ron Paul
and that is it. The two top losers in the National race. Come on West Virginia Lets Wake Up.
Well Vic, It’s individuals like yourself who are running small-government free-market libertarian Republicans out of the party. Reagan once praised libertarianism, in a interview he gave in 1975 with Reason magazine as being “the very heart and soul of conservatism…” It’s actually rather tragic to see what’s happened to our broad coalition.
We’re obviously not welcome anymore. We’re hippies, peaceniks, and Bush-haters.
Oddly enough Vic, it was probably people like me within the Republican party that thought your indiscretions were none of anyone’s business, but then again I’m just a lowly Ron Paul supporter.
Have fun with the Jesus Party. I’m sure they’ll treat you well.
Who are these crazy Ron Paul supporters?
Peter Schiff, Barry Goldwater Jr, the American Conservative Magazine, Don Luskin, Michael Sheuer (former head of the Bin Laden unit of the CIA), and Jane Roe of the Roe v Wade decision.
The National Taxpayers Union says Ron Paul is the only candidate that will reduce taxes and spending.
Even that kook Glen Beck said recently he agreed with most of Ron Paul’s platform, just not foreign policy.
John Mccain wants to stay in Iraq 100 years. He does have economy experience from his Keating 5 days.
Mitt Romney raised fees in his state with mandatory health care, and flip flops around on every issue. He has some kooky supporters too, remember toe tapping Larry Craig?
Mike Huckabee has over a 1000 clemencies served, and I’m not sure what’s so fair about a 30% sales tax. I’d rather replace the income tax with nothing like Ron Paul’s platform.
70s hippies? First of all, what is wrong with being a 70s hippy? Is that worse than being a bigot? Ask yourself that. Second of all, you would be surprised to find out that the majority of us are extremely educated and successful in our careers. Just because you have a blue shirt and a tie doesn’t mean your opinion is any more relevant than anyone else’s.
Bush haters? You think Ron Paul supporters are the only Bush haters? I’m not even going to begin explaining what is wrong with that thought.
Peaceniks? Again, this does not even need to be addressed. Everyone who wants more war for profit, say aye.
Decriminalization of drugs? I have personal experience with close family members in this area. A 14 year old being sent away for smoking dope does more to ruin lives than the original “crime” would in the first place. The war on drugs is a comedy, not a war.
To Mr. Moore, First the State Convention was an idea the Rob Capehart and his “adminstration” thought up. I like Rob(supported him for Gov)and while I am upset that the Convention is not getting the notice it should, I still think it was a good idea. I believe Doug, Bob and others with the State GOP are doing as much as they can.
Getting the State GOP publicity was not the only goal of the Convention. Helping to cutdown the debt was also, and it has done that.
While we may not have another one. I still think it will be interesting and will eventually get us some notice nationwide.
To LARRY, Huckabee proposes the FAIR TAX which would do away with the IRS(which would also cut the price of items 22.5% when you do away with all that the income tax entails)and a 23% sales on ONLY NEW goods and services. Before you criticise something you should fully check it out.
GOD BLESS
GOP BUDDY
What’s a “geator threat”?
oh yeah, the conventin,
Those dlegates elected in Kanawha won with a total number of 40-50 votes.
If the information I read is valid, I believe it to be so, then we are letting just about 50 people decide who is going to vote for you and presidential candidate.
Yes, the convention is successful.
Vic:
Ron Paul got 19% in Maine.
We are taking our country back from the neocons.
Ron Paul is everything you do NOT say. He is the SOLE presidential candidate to support PEACE. He is the sole candidate who understands the dollar. He is the sole candidate who is truly pro-life, both before and after birth. He does not hate anyone, but he clearly understands the evils that you so foolishly protect and then promote. I feel pity in my heart and soul for you, the writer of the mean spirited article that cannot be called news or journalism. You are so poorly informed that your ignorance is nothing more or less than heartbreaking. I hope the children your people are dooming to live their lives during wartime can somehow forgive you. You words are no different than pouring salt into an open wound. What a sad little male human you prove yourself to be.
thomp-
Look on the bright side…if Ron Paul would somehow manage to win the election (don’t ask me how), then at least the drive-by editorial cartoonists would still be able to use the same physical exaggerations for four more years that they have used for the last eight.
Christy Barnett said: “Ron Paul can only serve to hurt us in this convention, the more supporters he gets, the more likely, Wv is bound to suffer serious embarrassment.”
So you choose your president based on inbreeding jokes? Actually since Paul came in fourth, I think West Virginia looks even worse than other small states. I figured people who are thought of as basic, would understand basic rights. Don’t follow the rest of the country foolishly, especially since the rest of the country is always talking about how backwards you are. Take a stand!
Just think having our money backed by something besides imagination. Come on now, the phony duo that are running in the lead and the bass playing man of “God” are an EMBARRASSMENT TO THE PARTY. We need someone who is willing to speak up and not just pander to the middle of the road intellectuals. This is the most pitiful election cycle in the history of our country. There is not one person on either side worth supporting. Having said that I will still vote a straight REPUBLICAN ticket, but I do wish our party could do better.
So, yet again I’m stuck between Trotskyville and Jesusland, a.k.a West Virginia. So, the backward uber-religious state goes for the Southern Baptist Preacher…yeah, we’re avoiding those stereotypes.
Ron Paul should be getting the praise he deserves, not the weirdo comments. He is a man of honor and believes in the Constitution as the law of the land, which most people think is outdated. Shame on all of you that have been brainwashed by the media double talkers, big business, and the controlling elite. You probably also believe the bull…t, that the voting machines can be trusted and have not been tampered with during this caucus, too! Our monetary system is in BIG trouble because we are no longer are on the gold standard. Wake up people and understand what has been taken away from us! It would do everyone good to watch Arron Russo’s, America,Freedom to Fascism, and get this country back on track before it is too late. I am disappointed with Vic’s take on Ron, he’s not as bright he professes to be.
…and the Paulistas didn’t let me down! I knew we would hear from them and hear how those who do not support Paul are “RINO’s” and don’t support the Constitution, etc., etc. I’m surprised there hasn’t been any name-calling though. That’s a typical tactic of this crowd.
The bottom line is this: Ron Paul is not a conservative, despite who you CLAIM “supports” him. (By the way, how can Goldwater support Paul when he’s been dead for almost 20 years? Go figure.) Conservatives stand for the following:
-low taxes
-less government intervention in individual lives and the economy
-national security
Like I say about McCain, just because one takes a conservative postion on a few issues does not make one a conservative. Ron Paul is absolutely and sadly wrong on issues of national security and that makes him NOT a conservative.
Paul supporters are simply going to have to accept this fact and move on.
Just like pride on Romney’s campaign staff led to an unforseen fall (from 18 delegates to zero delegates), I firmly predict a fall for Vic Sprouse in light of his sophomoric comments regarding Congressman Ron Paul and the constitutional movement he’s seeded for four decades, now bearing fruit. Don’t know when or what, but the Book of Proverbs says it’s a-comin’ sir!
“Before destruction a man’s heart is haughty, but humility comes before honor.” Proverbs 18:12 ESV
And yes, I predict a continued slow and steady rising of Ron Paul and the constitutional movement. Just as the first half of the scripture above nicely applies to Mr. Sprouse, so the second half fits the peaceful shoes of Ron Paul.
The matter is in the hands of God and His Law Word, the Bible.
Of course, Mr. Sprouse could humble himself before God and others for his arrogant statements, but that kind of thing is tragically rare in politics and American life these days. The choice is to humble yourself or to be humbled. God has a perfect track record of exalting the humble and humbling the prideful. I pray that God grants you the grace of humility, Mr. Sprouse, so you will have a blessed future, in time and eternity.l
B.K.
What’s wrong with you..
Those points are exactly what Ron Paul is For!!!
He’s also the most Pro-life…because he has personally delivered 4,000 babies with his own hands. Name any other candidate who can top that.
Paul’s positions make it clear that he is not in favor of national security. He would withdraw our troops; thereby making this nation more vulnerable to another attack. He would send the message, either intentionally or unintentionally, that America hasn’t the stomach for fighting terrorists to win.
Haven’t we had this debate before??
I find it less than adult and indeed totally condescending to refer to Dr. Paul as being surrounded by “kookiness”. This wonderful man is far your superior for whom you do not even show proper respect. The gentleman has more knowledge in one finger than you have in your entire leftist-globalist brain.
He is an American treasure and a statesman, the first statesman this country has known in my lifetime. Shame on you for disregarding common descency and good manners. You make West Virginia appear ignorant by your actions.
The only thing kooky going on in this country is that we have a president pre-emptively invading countries around the world and itching to invade Iran and maybe Korea and again Pakistan adn Brazil. He is not only kooky, but insane. He freely admits Iraq had nothing to do with his 911 project, yet no matter, invaded anyway. He is obsessed with hia war on Americans and the mid east. McCain is a disgrace to the Republican party and graduated sixth lowest in a class of about 600, then was given fly boy status to crash five planes. He is border line insane and is immoral and unethical, having done everything possible to thwart POW-MIA investigations. The “Songbird” even had his own records permanently sealed before this Presidential race.
The other kooky thing going on is nearly every state, every precinct has had illegal and unethicla shenanigans going on the steal elections and margianlize, steal votes, and even deny Dr. Paul’s candicacy, by telling voters he had dropped out. In one state they had to call police and file a report for the same. Really, I do not think America’s leaders are intersted in valid electaians. They want only a banana republice in America, soon to be United States of the North American Union. RFID is coming May 8, 2008. No turning back folks. You will be monitored everywhere you go.
Just as with Iran, his reason for invading was that our dollar was in trouble and Saddam refused to continue monetizing oil in dollars. The same is true of Iran. This has nothing to do with Democracy. It is wholly about oil and money. He throws a fit when some Iranis toss some cigarettes into the water near a carrier-something they do all the time because we pay them to do it. Wants to drop a bomb over a few cases of cigs. Creepy and kooky.
With the opening of the Iranian Oil Bourse, Bush will likely try again to bomb Iran as they plan ato monetize in Euros. Ha! Serves the kooky president right. More neocons to follow who want nothing more than to destroy America.
Sprouse, you are an uniformed neocon and political neophyte and are many levels below the brilliance of Dr. Paul.
I wonder when it became “neo-con” to defend America? I must have missed that unholy moment.
