Goodness gracious, not more Kabler divorce commentary July 23, 2008

I’m sorry, but I couldn’t help but shake my head at Phil Kabler’s column last week and then have my jaw drop with another reference to me this week.

His obsession with me is, well…  a little creepy.  Its even more weird than those Joe Delong commercials with his mom and those REALLY weirded me out.

I don’t know, there is something really odd going on here.  Seriously, I have never seen any divorce, especially past three years into it, I mean even the infamous Truman Chafin war zones where people were actually fleeing the country and federal indictments were being handed down, that have had every single hearing and every single filing detailed in the newspaper.  I really don’t think US Weeklycovers Brittany’s divorces in the detail that Kabler is obsessed with mine.

And, I can’t recall EVER in my 14 years a concerted campaign to try to affect someone’s actual business and their livelihood.

It’s just, well, bizarre.

Two weeks in a row, Kabler has actually listed out my clients or former clients and tried to basically say they should fire me.  (never mind that a few of my business clients actually were - well, before these last two articles - either thinking about or actually becoming serious spenders with Charleston Newspapers).  But, I’ve never seen it in my time, where even the Gazette would go after someone’s personal livelihood.  For some reason, this has become more than personal for Kabler and beyond anything I’ve ever seen the Gazette produce.

Of course, the argument that Phil used in his last column was nearly word-for-word the same warning to my clients in the primary… and that came before our primary’s resounding victory, so I can only hope it is a harbinger for the fall election.

This divorce case and its details are under seal by the Court.  Of course, that supposed court ‘requirement’ is treated equally to the Pirates’ Code.  More of a ‘guideline’ that any hard and fast rule.

Goodness gracious.

My guess is any of my clients who actually read his column would receive a boost by knowing Kabler and the Gazette were against them.  My guess is the anti-Gazette crowd is at least an offset to any of those still personally invested in my three-years-and-counting divorce.  Getting ripped by the Gazette gives you street cred if you are a conservative.

This week, PKab tried to scare away Senator Clark Barnes.  Of course, the totality of the work I did for Clark was helping him organize a few fundraisers last year

My guess is the supposed “reader” that emailed Phil about his concerns certainly couldn’t have come from Clark’s opponent, former Senator Mike Ross’ campaign itself.

Trust me, their campaign doesn’t want an exploration of their campaign consultant’s personal life.  Nor does any campaign.  And, I can guarantee you every campaign consultant gets the willies when they begin hearing discussion about examinations of their personal lives and determining whether or not the candidates they represent should retain them because of it.

Ouch.  That wouldn’t be a pretty sight.

Thank goodness neither my-ex nor Kabler know my non-political clients or I’m guessing they would be reported in the Gazette as well.  I could see it now,

The Mars Company might want to rethink their affilation with consultant Vic Sprouse because at least four people who still care about his divorce, at least two of which actually live in West Virginia, have personally told Phil Kabler that they will never again eat an M&M as long as Vic Sprouse has anything to do with them.

It’s also a little bit of a head-scratcher to witness a concerted effort to try to drive clients away by perpetuating this myth of me not paying support, all the while demanding that I pay even more.  I’m guessing that irony is lost on them.

While it’s mostly comical, I grow weary of this claim that I have not delivered adequate support over the last three years.  Significant, as in six figure significant, money has been distributed in this case over the last three years (mostly tax free), so that myth is… well..  a myth.  I could give the dollar-for-dollar breakdowns of the levels of support, but my guess is, oh, about 14 people would actually care, oh, and right, the Court has ordered us not to discuss the divorce details, wink-wink.

But, again, the simply odd part about this whole case is Kabler’s now weekly obsession with it.  It gives me the willies and goes far beyond any normal ‘bashing’ that has gone on in the past.  It’s…  creepy.

Kabler constantly writes about Phil Reale and “bigpharma’s” spending on marketing to doctors.

However, since he isn’t obsesed with Mr. Reale, he does not mention Reale’s other job:

    http://www.wvdlc.com/Members/General_Chair.htm

General Chair of the WV DLC, charged with electing more Dems to the legislature.

I personally think the legislature has no right to regulate a drug company’s marketing budget, but if the Gazette is on a crusade to use the heavy hand of government to tell Reale’s drug companies how to spend their money (or require disclosure), it would be a newsworthy fact that Reale is charged by the Democrat leadership with protecting their positions.

It could even be an embarrasing fact to those who want to run on using tax dollars to buy drugs for people.

Once again, the readers of the Gazette know less about an issue than if they read nothing at all.

No wonder the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette scooped them on the story of the year.

    Two things, Vic……
(1)If Phil Kabler didn’t view you as a threat to the Democratic machine in WV[ either through your current political office or because of your consulting business] he would likely leave you alone and move on to some other issue. If this is the case, take heart…it means that the liberals still see you as someone of power and influence with the conservatives in WV.
(2)If Kabler can only bring up a years-old divorce issue as the “hottest” scoop on Vic Sprouse, then you’re doing pretty well. Most politicians carry far more current “baggage” with them that could be fodder for the editorialists.

You mentioned Phil Reale and former Senator Mike Ross. Neither is lilly white…..and far from it. While I like Mike personally, I found his connection with the Pete Dye Golf Club in Harrison County and his push to have a four-lane highway built from I-79 to its entrance, among other things, to be very unethical! Most of the residents along that road protested the widening and yet it went through with Allan Mollohan’s earmarked support without a hitch! Further, the highway is used for a parking lot every time there is a tournament there. And then, there’s Mollohan, himself! Talk about earmarks! A 1.5 mile connector from I-79 to downtown Fairmont….$155 million. And, Marion County gets disproportionately far more federal funds directed to it that any other county in WV, except Kanawha, which is the largest in population.
There’s alot of rotten fruit to grab that is low-hanging and there for the picking, but folks like Phil Kabler will leave their Democratic buddies alone as long as they can find some stale tidbit to dredge up about guys like you.

Kabler is getting rather creepy with this. I wonder what he’ll write when Dan Greear becomes the next AG? I got it:

“Despite having dead weight Republican Senator Vic Sprouse managing his campaign, it seems AG-elect Dan Greear got lucky. Sprouse tried to leave his poor ex-wife and child homeless in the street, but this didn’t matter to the idiots who voted for Greear. Several people told me they don’t even plan to recognize Greear as the legitimate AG because of Sprouse. If they need to utilize the services of the AG’s office, they plan to go to Darrell McGraw’s house.”

…and you know I’m not far from the truth!

Mollohan outdid Sen. Stevens “bridge to nowhere” with his I-79 “bridge FROM nowhere TO nowhere”. It has no entires or exits and nothing on either end. Next time you are on I-79 exit and find the ends of this travesty.

Yikes, this is really getting out of hand.

You don’t owe Kabler money do ya, Vic? ;-)

Vic, What I can’t understand is it is not like your clients did not know about your divorce(s), so I am like you I can’t understand what Kab is trying to do.
    GOD BLESS
    BUDDY

Being concerned with someones marriage/divorce statistics is soooo last century.

I thought Ma-maw Pelosi said we weren’t supposed to engage in the “politics of personal destruction.”

Guess Kabler didn’t get the memo.
