Greear announces platform on Talkline July 15, 2008

The platform says it all.

Now is the time to defeat Darrell McGraw and we finally have a candidate with a plan to do it.  What a refreshing change - an Attorney General who’s simple focus is to do the job of Attorney General.

Greear’s statement is below.

****

Fellow West Virginians,
I am running for the Office of Attorney General and I have developed my pledge, or “Five Commitments to the People of West Virginia,” which outlines my platform and personal commitment to restore the integrity of the office and to you When elected, I will ensure the process is free from political influence, inefficiency, and legal unfairness. I truly believe West Virginia is one of the greatest state’s in our nation, but it’s time for a proven leader and positive change.  I am committed to serving you and pledge to uphold the following five commitments as West Virginia State Attorney General:  1.                   Enforcing Consumer Protection & Improving the Business Climate:   As Attorney General, I promise to protect West Virginians by enforcing consumer protection laws while also working with business and industry to maintain a business-friendly and job growth environment. A business-friendly environment drives economic development, creating and keeping the work here at home - in West Virginia.  2.                   Ending Abuse of Official Offices for Political Gain:  As Attorney General, I will end the abuse of using public office for political gain, such as the practice of using taxpayer funding for re-election campaigns. The integrity and honesty of public officials and public offices will be above-board and maintained.  3.                   Increasing Transparency & Accountability:

As Attorney General, I pledge that all settlement recoveries by the Attorney General’s Office will be turned over to the state legislature for appropriation and dissemination to the people of West Virginia. This change will provide the greatest accountability and transparency of the process. As currently practiced, such funds are being distributed at the sole discretion of the Attorney General, providing zero transparency and accountability to you – the taxpayer.    4.                   Implementing a Competitive Bid Process:   As Attorney General, Special Assistant Attorneys General will only be hired in rare circumstances. All such hires, including outside vendors, will be based on a competitive and public bidding process. This ensures the State of West Virginia will get the best legal and other services at the best prices - saving taxpayer dollars. The days of favoritism and cronyism - hiring political contributors and friends and rewarding them with outrageous contingency fees – are over.  5.                   Crime:   As Attorney General, I promise to get tougher on crime. I will work with law enforcement at all levels to keep convicted criminals behind bars through aggressive representation on the State of West Virginia in criminal appeals.  I will readily assist prosecutors and law enforcement agents with legal issues regarding criminal procedure.

I am sure Dan can count on his legal brethren to support him!!
If you should ever wonder what is wrong with our government in West Virginia, take a look at the contributors to the McGraw campaign. Sorry to paint a profession with such a broad brush it is just very difficult to find the ones that truly care about anyone other than themselves. Dan can be counted among the very few.

    “Improving the business climate”?!

The Democrat good-ol’-boy network will never let you get away with that. Don’tcha know things are
just great here in the People’s Republic of West Virginia because Daddy Gov’t takes care of us.

Sorry for the sarcasm. I really do hope that Mr. Greear is elected and he certainly has my vote, but I have seen little reason to be optimistic about WV elections. The same old voters keep re-electing the same old Democrats who keep the same old policies in place.

I hope for WV’s sake that this trend changes this year, but I’m not holding my breath.

Darrell McGraw is a criminal who should be put behind bars instead of put back in office. McGraw gives his campaign contributors no-bid state contracts worth millions. Where is Carrie Webster’s “transparency” and “disclosure” when it comes to the Attorney General’s office. Oh wait, her husband works in that office and her law firm has gotten million dollar contracts. Maybe Carrie and Fran Hughes could share a cell some day.

Concerned, I’m a little unclear about your comment. Exactly where do you stand with McGraw?
