Manchin approval rating down to 57% among Democrats March 25, 2008

The Mojo is wearing off within the West Virginia Democratic party.

Early this week, I commented on the bad news for West Virginia Democrats should Barack Hussein Obama become their nominee.

The news was also bad for Governor Joe Manchin.

Manchin’s popularity has waned within the Democratic party to the lowest numbers I’ve seen during his time in office.

Only 57% of West Virginia Democrats approved of the way Manchin did his job.

57%.

Let’s put it this way, I remember a time in the not too distant past where Mojo was running near 80% with more than 81% of Democrats (and 74% of Republicans) were supporting his performance as Governor.

And, as the primary season heats up and you see more and more challenge of Manchin as Governor, one thing is clear.

Manchin’s popularity has taken a huge hit.  Over 20% in a year and probably more to go.

There has been a few cracks in Manchin’s armor as the House of Delegates turned proposal after proposal on its ear that Manchin sent up.  While Manchin has put on the happy face for the public, he has been privately fuming at some of the actions that have occured.

Unfortunately with every point that Manchin’s popularity drops, the House leadership  becomes more bold in their opposition to him and their push of the liberal agenda.

There are a few groups who have simply had it with Manchin and account for the majority of his losses.

First, teachers.  After all, Manchin actually had the cajones to dare suggest that taxpayers shouldn’t fund a buyout of teachers’ private 401K accounts.  Silly Joe.  He should know that anything the teachers ask for the Democrats unquestioningly give.

The second group is retired public employees who wanted a raise.  Again, Silly Joe.  He said no.

Of course, Joe’s approval rating I’m sure is high among Independents and Republicans and well, anyone who has to pay to buyout teachers’ private 401K when they themselves have none.

My hope is that this is a good sign for Republicans.  After all, my guess is Joe is more popular among Republicans than Democrats right now.  And, my guess is his approval rating is even higher among independents.

With the House already down the road of Stalinism, and the Senate getting ready to turn over 7 or 8 or 9 new members, moderates and conservatives have to hope that Joe doesn’t get pulled down the road of the House’s brand of liberalism.

How are all the “family values” groups, such as WVFL, feeling??

If I’ve heard it once, I’ve heard it a thousand times: “Joe is really a Republican, you know”. My stock answer: “he is NOT registered a Republican”. It seems as though that little myth has been put to rest.

Joe pushed for tax cuts for business.. NOT popular in the Democrat party.

Every good Democrat knows business is evil, coal barons run the State and things in WV are not as bad as the numbers show.. we do have a budget surplus so all must be good.

He wins in November and is a lame duck.

MoJoe is personable, but he’s still a Democrat.

Russ Weeks, on the other hand, can be a bit abrasive. That could be because Russ pretty much tells it like it is - instead of what he thinks you want to hear.

I’d really love to see Russ win the election just to be able to enjoy the gridlock that would follow in the legislature. He’d be a lot harder for them to deal with than MoJoe is.

He may just make it too. Like Vic mentioned in a previous posting, Barrack Obama is going to lose this state by something like 15%. I don’t like John McCain, but I sincerely hope his coattails help bring Russ into the governor’s office.

    Ain’t gonna happen.

The Photo Op Joe machine will spring to life flush with all the special interest cash and put on a slick TV commercial spread showing Mojo consoling the dead miners families and delivering gambling money checks to Seniors.

They will run these ads during re-runs of Lawerence Welk, Hee-Haw and wrestling shows locking up the majority Democrat vote.

As I said, he will win and be a lame duck with the new socialists in the Legislature mainly ignoring him.

At least Mojo has found a way to keep the wife out of his hair, by appointing her to just about every commission and board under the sun.

I noticed that Papa Joe is going to redo the Governor’s Press Conference room to the tune of however-many-gazillion dollars.

I’m convinced it is strictly a WV thing. We live in the second poorest state in the nation yet we have a gold-domed Capitol, high-def, flat screen TV’s in the Governor’s Mansion, and now the Governor will have a fancy press conference room. Just a few miles from the Capitol, another WVian is living in a trailer with a dirt yard, but he has a satellite dish and a new truck.

We WVians sure know how to dress up a pile of dogsh**, don’t we?
