Some odds and ends; Bray Cary, Coach Stew, McGraw October 7, 2008
Just some random thoughts…
****
I’ve been meaning to write about this for weeks, but did anyone see the poor environmentalists (the lady’s name was Scarbro or something and I don’t remember the guy’s name) when they were on Decision Makers?
Now, it’s not often that I feel bad for the enviros, but holy smokes did Bray Cary completely destroy and embarrass them.
It reminded me of when I was a kid growing up I would watch wrestling and one of the famous wrestlers was Andre the Giant.
Now, for less important matches, they sometimes would pit two people against Andre just to make it a match. Of course, the two were these two little guys that would try to beat up Andre.
They would run toward Andre when his back was to them and start pounding on his back. Andre would turn around and plop the two of them on top of the head, throw the one on top of the other, and pin them both.
THAT’S exactly what happened on Decision Makers and Bray Cary was Andre the Giant, almost annoyed by the enviros, but he had to fill 14 minutes so he toyed with them, batted them around a little for amusement and then simply squashed them like bugs. I mean, I really felt bad for them they were toast.Â
Bray normally doesn’t simply butcher people, but they looked like THEY were a mountaintop removal site pre-reclamation when he was done with them with their silly wind project.

There are few times my jaw drops open, but when I saw WVU had a $4.124 million dollar buyout of “Coach Stew”’s contract this year, I couldn’t believe it. It goes down over the years, but I was shocked at the amount for a coach who truly could not land another division 1-A coaching job.
And, let’s face it, ol’ Stew has somehow managed to take a national championship caliber team, one ranked 8th in the country to start the year and has turned it into a team that popped champagne corks when they beat Marshall and edge a 1-4 Rutgers team.
I heard someone on Talkine speaking about how we needed to be patient during this “transition year.”
Transition year?
Transition year?
How do you return the most potent offense in the last decade and reduce it to a team who scored three points against East Carolina (who subsequently gave up boatloads of points to NC State, who before that game hadn’t scored a touchdown against a Division 1-A school) and then get barely get untracked against a Colorado team who surrended 500 against Florida State team who hadn’t scored a touchdown since the 1800s and then got obliterated by Texas at home - seems the Texans weren’t too affected by the altitude).
Unbelieveable.Â
And, truly unbelieveable that we would lock him in for a SIX year contract when even after a decent year, without the disasterous turn of events this year, couldn’t buy a job for another top program.
Right, Unbelievable.

Darrell McGraw is out there trying to protect us from high gas prices. Now, nevermind that he has been in office 16 years and has yet to lift a finger, and nevermind that gas has been over $4.00 at least the last 10 months. Nope, 40 days out from the election Darrell is all over it.
And, then the Greear campaign hears from an impeccable source, i.e. IT HAPPENED AND THEY KNOW IT HAPPENED, that he had Amy Shuler Goodwin calling around on behalf on “the AG’s office” trying to buy radio time - get this - for a series of town hall meetings on gas. Right, Darrell was going to hold a series of town hall meetings on gas prices, do it 30 days before the election, do with our tax dollars, have a political consulting firm make the buys, and say it has nothing to do with the campaign. I’m assuming now (since they were turned down for buying the ads, that they scrapped the idea since they couldn’t garner any taxpayer paid press over it). Riiiight. And, my understanding is that when Amy was asked who was going to handle the logitics - she said Denise Tucker… you know the one, her campaign ’spokesperson’ (of course, being spokesperson for McGraw entails saying one line, “he chooses not to debate at this time.”) So, it’s for the AG’s office, paid for by the taxpayers, the buy is made by a political consultant working “for the AG’s office” and the logistics is set up by the campaign.
Holy moley.
The sad part about this is that McGraw is SO blantant in his unethical if not illegal use of taxpayer dollars that the media give a collective shrug to any story having to do with Darrell… well… acting unethically or illegally.
I’m sure this is another one they will shrug their shoulders at…

Oh and I bought gas after the Wood County Farm Bureau Ox Roast for $3.39 a gallon. Maybe they heard Darrell was on his way.

Did JRock simply still Shelley Capito’s campaign commercial? HE is now saying that he supports drilling and was actually holding a piece of coal, a la Shelley.
I have to admit I do love all of these Dems who just six weeks ago were adamantly opposed to drilling all of a sudden are actually putting it in their commercials.
Now, anyone who follows campaign commercials, you have to love JRock’s production. I mean, no expense is spared and it visually is pretty amazing. I’d love to know the amount of money spent to put that commercial together, but my guess it is well, well above probably the entire amount that Jay Wolfe will raise the entire election.
****
Please, please, please, Ann Barth campaign.Â
Please stop having Ann do every single word of every single commercial. The latest “negative” commercial that Ann voices is so pained it’s difficult to watch. Ann can’t decide whether to smile or scowl and she actually says the last few sentences through clenched teeth.
I can’t take it, sorry.

That would likely have been Maxine Scarbro. She was w/ DNR for many years.
As such, she ran the WV Wildflower Pilgrimage for a number of years. It was prudent to watch your back. She is not missed by many of the leaders.
It was Lorelei Scarbro and CNN just did a story on the “silly wind project.” You know, the one that will actually produce more jobs, revenue and energy in the long term for our state than blowing up a mountain.
And it’s no surprise to me that Sen. Sprouse thought Carey embarrassed them. Carey said that since they didn’t support mountain top removal mining they support terrorists. Brilliant logic and class, too.
The best thing about this recession - depression we are entering and will be enduring for a couple of year is that it will kill most of the enviro-wacko legislation including carbon cap and trade.
With unemployment at 10% and the American people in a really bad mood, the Democrats will not dare enact legislation that will cost people more money.
Wait until the average West Virginian sees his electric bill go up over 20% here shortly to pay for all the enviro-wacko regulations on the coal power plants (anyone seen the hundreds and hundreds of cars at the John Amos plant ? Guess WHO gets to pay for that ?)
Now dagburn it, I’m a gonna turn this ole team around, you just sit on yer britches and watch.
See, I learnt everything I know from that ole rascal Don Nehlen. I hired me a bunch of those Nehlen rascals to help me get this team back to real football.
That Nehlen rascal used to win 7 or 8 games every year and by gollee I’m a gonna do the same.
Those folks down in Charlotte love to see us West Virginees come down thar and play. Heck, half of the state of West Virginee lives down thar, so we might as well get us a bowl game down thar for them to watch.
That thar spread offense that other feller conjured up is too hard for these little fellers on my team to understand. We’re a gonna back to the good ole days of throwing that ole pigskin down field and running up the middle for 3 yards at a whack. Yeppers, 3 yards and a cloud of dust is what I always a say.
I use that squib kick to keep that other bunch from a scorin on us, then put our defense on the field to keep them out of that place where that field goal thing is. Timezone is it called? Heck, I don’t know what it’s called. We don’t need to be a down thar anyway.
So, you just put yer feet up and watch me a take this team to the top. Yessiree, a coach like me knows exactly what hes a doin.
WV’s economy is actually doing better than the national average for the first time in decades because of REAL energy….coal, oil and natural gas….being in high demand. Now, I can’t wait for the state Dems to screw that up with more taxes, etc. Already, they’ve scared away a $35 millon headquarters for Chesapeake and Petroleum Development in Bridgeport will begin moving its headquarters staff to the new corporate HQ Denver, CO. But, of course, we’ll always have those great minimum wage Wal-Mart jobs!
Any conservative who wants to show what a Democratically-controlled congress and Presidency will do for the US ought to look at WV. Want to be taxed to death and last in every good thing….just look at WV!
ick Cross says “WV’s economy is actually doing better than the national average for the first time in decades because of REAL energy….coal, oil and natural gas….being in high demand.”
hhmmm….then what is all this talk about getting the Dems out of government because WV’s economy is so horrible?
Now Dick, don’t go using things like facts against those Democrats; it’s just not fair.
Hey Laughing. I’m agreeing that what Dick just said was a fact!
duh
Vic, Vic, Vic…when will you learn.
Clearly the reason for the lower gas prices is George W Bush and Dick Cheney are telling their oil buddies to lower gas prices so the Republicans can steal another election!
Dale
The reason for the lower gas prices of late is that the Democrat Congress has wrecked the Economy with easy home loan money for people who could not afford home loans and those people have defaulted wrecking the housing and banking industries.
Your buddies in Congress (The Carpetbagger JRock, Crazy Grandpa Byrd, No-Drill Rahall and Grant money for my buddies Mollahan) just spent $ 700 BILLION of my Kids and Grandkids money to pay for the Democrat housing Welfare Program.
The world is slipping into a deep recession and demand for oil is plummeting.
On the Coach Stew contract—don’t get me started. All I have to say is… in improper English….WE GOT GOOBER!!! WVU’s administration manages to get rid of one of the best college football coaches in the country and instead of interviewing hopefuls Coach Stew was hired on emotion and with the Governor’s approval. What else would an 8th ranked team want? Maybe just maybe for the administration to have listened to Coach Rod and shared in his vision to make whatever changes was needed to improve our program on a daily basis so that we would be considered one of the top football programs in the nation. If the coach is putting the “W’s” on the board theN give him whatever he’s asking for. Don’t back him up against a wall. The program is at a standstill if not going backwards. All of Rich’s hard work down the drain. Our administration should love the trickle affect of their decision to not help our program. GO BLUE!!!!
Mikey,
my comment was meant in sarcasm and jest. Sorry should have made note of that.
Dale
Sorry to have unloaded, should of said B.K.’s buddies in Congress.
I am an unhappy camper with being indebted $ 700 Billion, it ain’t right our kids - grandkids have to pay for this.
Economic observation - off topic
I own 2 companies. One services the coal industry and the second manufactures industrial equipment we sell in the US and overseas.
Our company dealing in coal is doing well, I am seeing requests for quotations and buying is pretty strong.
Our second Company has seen a rapid and deep decline in activity and this has come on in the last 3 weeks. We had a 4 week backlog of work and it is now will be zero end of this week, we have no orders. Our phones have stopped ringing and our overseas orders, which accounted for 60% of our business, have ceased and our sales agents say “no money to buy”
I had to lay off 2 people yesterday and probably 1 or 2 more this Friday.
My observation is the economy is doing more than slowing down, it is grinding to a halt.
I am not sure West Virginia is shielded from this like some want to believe, I know there are 2 guys on the street this week in West Virginia and I bet you they are not alone.
It is only a short matter of time until coal prices collapse due to a steep decline in demand and the layoffs hit WV HARD.
I have been around in business for quite a while and I have never seen anything like this. I fear for my Company and Country.
It’s gonna get ugly folks.
