Melody Potter sent out a great email earlier about the liberal OFA that is “organizing” listening tours across the state to try to prop up the already struggling Obama administration.
Of course, they had to send in someone from New Mexico to do it and what the poor girl doesn’t realize is that she was in a state where Obama got pounded and that was BEFORE he decided to break the bank and put the next 10 or 12 generations in debt up to their ears.
Melody’s update is below. I’m just happy I wasn’t there.
Good luck in “organizing” West Virginia, OFA. I remember ALL the stories about how Obama had this state organized during the election. That was before his beatdown by John McCain of course. Let’s hope this “organizing” job is as successful as the organization for the election.
****
From Melody Potter…
This evening a few of us attended the OFA (Organizing For America) Listening Tour that was held at the Kanawha County Public Library. We attended out of curiosity and to observe. This was promoted leaving folks with the impression this would be similar to a town hall meeting where there would be interaction from citizens regarding the Obama Administration’s policies for Change.
Â
This was a huge deception. The purpose of this meeting, the others scheduled in West Virginia, and nationwide is to grow and to organize grassroots to promote and to support Obama’s policies. The OFA is organizing  in all fifty states, including West Virginia, from all of our counties and into neighborhoods (not precincts) to advance Obama’s policies.
Â
The lady running the meeting is from New Mexico and her name is Megan Gardner. The lady helping her is from the west coast. A comment from Megan Gardner was, “we can help President Obama change the world”.
Â
The last time I heard, the United States of America is a sovereign nation.
Â
Another comment from her was that “President Obama has policies he feels very passionately about, we can help him advance them”.Â
Â
I ask, what about the best interests of the American people?
Â
The OFA is recruiting grassroots to advance Cap and Trade, Bailouts, Socialized Medicine, more gun control, increased taxes, less National Defense, the Fairness Doctrine, not to mention the social issues such as taxpayer funded abortions for overseas and here, the advancement of gay rights and I could go on…
Â
I am sending this out to all on my e-mail list to inform everyone as to what we are up against. We need to be working together now to stop the Change that is coming to America if we want to have our Nation as we know it. We need to start the work here locally and now.
Â
Thank you,
Melody

Didn’t I read about this sort of thing in 1984? Big Brother and Big Sister are very concerned, obviously. Those insignificant tea parties must be shaking them up.
At the first meeting of the Morgantown Tea Party organizers we discussed having a petition to sign.
One of the organizers asked what we wanted people to come away from the event doing. Was it that having signed the petition, they would feel as though they had “done something”?
I replied that we wanted to leave them running for their pitchforks.
Obviously, from the above account, it is time to head for the pitchforks.
I think it is interesting the Dems can’t be honest. They call this organization “Organizing for America”, when it is really organizing to promote The Democraric agenda. In Harrison County and I believe it is part of a nationwide organization, they have “Democracy for America”, but it really is a Democratic Party organization. I think more people need to question this.
GOD BLESS

Hope - Change
Perhaps this is the start of what Obama referred to during the campaign. Remember when he talked of forming civilian forces that would be funded as much, if not more, than American military forces?
I’m figuring it won’t be long until they start wearing brown shirts and giving the chosen one a full salute whenever they see him.
Folks, we MUST get this radical out of office in 2012…if the country survives until then.
Every despot in modern history that has not taken over by revolution has started out using such ‘grass roots” organizations to promote his agenda. Look at Hitler, for example. It is deceptive and insidious!
This great nation cannot stand 8 years of Obama. I wonder what it will be like in just 4 years.
Here’s the problem:
Republicans agree that the feds are acting wrongful in rasing taxes, limiting our Freedoms, increasing spending and passing stupid environmental laws. They can’t see that this SAME federal government, which you agree is acting corrupt and wrong, is PERFECTLY right in every war they start is beyond me.
Self defense is necessary but just because we go to war doesn’t mean it is a right decision(like Iraq). WE THE PEOPLE need to make sure to hold the reins of our government to protect innocent lives in the world. This is a pro-life position. Pro-lifers will not support killing millions of innocent people just to kill hundreds of enemies. That would make us a threat to others. Americans are better than that.
We also shouldn’t support a war where our own soldiers are endangered because they aren’t allowed to fight. Pro-lifers don’t support putting our American soldiers in jepordy due to bad war policy.
That is why the independent movement is so valid today. We are filling the void that the Republicans and Democrats leave. These 2 parties seem to have lost their way in defending the constituion and REAL limited government.
You will have to contend with this growing class of independent conservative voters from now on. We are growing in numbers and strong in voice.
Aaron wrote: “WE THE PEOPLE need to make sure to hold the reins of our government to protect innocent lives in the world.”
Millions of Iraqis are now liberated and live in a democracy where they choose their government.
Check that request off the list, Aaron.
Next?
Thank God this great country has not and will never depend on the likes of Aaron to defend this country. You are an appeaser and would rather talk than defend our people.
There happens to be a brave and gallant people that do recognize that there is evil in the world and will fight to defeat that evil.
The appeaser will hide behind a belief that if we treat the evil with kindness they will allow us to exist, think again!
Love it or leave it, defend it or loose it!! Sempre Fi !! (”Always Faithful,”)
If you so dislike the Republican Party and do not wish to help make the necessary changes it is better you have left and we are better for it!
B.K.
Actually you are wrong. If you’ve seen footage of that area you’ll see that there is constant gun-fire at night, fear just to go to bed wondering if you’ll wake up. Some highways are “travel at your own risk”. There are zones where you’ll literally will be handed a gun to travel from point a to point b to defend yourself as you travel the highway. At point B you turn the gun back in.
There are places where if you send the wrong message by your converstaions, the Anti-American Iraqis will kill you, kidnap you whatever or you’ll be shot by an Iraqi sniper….
Some places have improved but it is NOT by far the utopian picture that you paint. You need to get into reality as well as the rest of the Republican party.
We’ve risked the lives of Americans and have nothing to show for…except how brave our American men and women are. I am impressed by the strong souls in our soldiers. They are an inspriation of diligence, strength, heart soul and spirit.
I will defend our soldiers integrity anyday!
Aaron, I didn’t write that Iraq was completely stable. I believe it will be eventually; that is unless the terrorists are waiting on Obama’s precious timeline to expire.
What I wrote was that Iraq is now a democracy. Remember all the Iraqi citizens with purple fingers on election day who experienced little to no violence? This is the end result of our troops’ work and sacrifice. The notion that neither we nor the Iraqis have nothing to show for our invasion is anti-war, baseless propaganda, pure and simple.
Anyway, you should be happy Aaron! Obama is giving you everything you want: a timeline for withdraw from Iraq, open to the legal prosecution of CIA interrogators who prevented terrorist attacks through enhanced interrogations, and apologies to the world for American “arrogance”. He is going to close down Gitmo, and shoot, he even released classified intelligence documents for our enemies abroad to see! You, John A. and Ron Paul ought to be delighted!
Every democracy in history has failed!
The founding fathers knew this that is why they specifically said for us to be a Republic.
If we made Iraq into a democracy then we have done a bad thing.
I bet you can’t explain the real difference between a republic and a democracy. If you could then you wouldn’t be as enthused about giving a country a democracy because history tells us all democracies end in failure and then dictatorship.
Our work was then pointless because it would be back in the hands of a Saddam once again.
Maybe the change they were trying to promote was the U.S. policy on torture.
Surely you folks haven’t forgotten the fact that the U.S. doesn’t torture!!! There must be some confusion regarding the true definition of waterboarding … right B.K.? It’s actually an Olympic event that’s been given a bad rap. Darth Cheney will be happy to validate that for you.
aaron:
There are urban areas in the that fit your example to the letter.
Keep telling yourselves that 3rd parties are the solution. Because that’s where you’re always going to be: third place.
And then everybody loses because if it wasn’t for a 3rd party loser like Ross Perot, we’d have never gotten Bill Clinton.
I thought Aaron was describing Detroit or Chicago, maybe Washington,D.C.
I know Aaron has first hand experience of the conditions in Iraq he must have just returned from there, or maybe he captured that informed opinion from CNN or MSNBC
Yeah, JTG, CONSIDERING putting a caterpillar in a box with a terrorist and telling him it stings is straight from the dark side. WOO-HOO!
America is so evil!!! Our CIA actually prevented terrorist attacks! How dare they?!
Let the hand-wringing and chest smoting begin!
Republican,
I love this country very much. I beleive that the constitution needs defended! While it is necessary to defend our borders, it is as necessary to defend the freedoms decreed by the constitution. While our homeland needs defended our rights as well need defended.
If you listen to the dialog of many of our leaders, such as Raum Immanuel who said “don’t let a crisis go wasted, they use these dark times to grow government. Many politicians have said that during war time you can strip many rights away.
So while our military does the honorable thing of defending our borders, I believe they need folks here to defend the rights in our constituion.
What good is winning a war if when the war is over our rights are dismantled?
We are on the same team here.
B.K. Time to spread a little love. Have you hugged a terrorist today?
If the Republican party wants to play isolationists with voters and continue to lose elections that’s fine by me. I didn’t vote Repbulican for the first time in my life and will continue to refuse to vote Repbulican until they stand on constituional principal of limited government. I’m sure I’m not alone by the look of the teaparties. Like the Republican that got booed of the stage in South Carolina.
Mock voters and refuse to listen if you will but you are mocking them right out of the Republican party and into the independent party.
Fine by me, i consider myself and American anyway NOT a Republican. I’m not bound by political parties anymore.
JTG: I haven’t personally hugged a terrorist, but I bet your President has at least shaken hands with one. Remember David Ayers??
Vic, With all due respect, you and most of those who interact with your blogsite are truly missing the big picture and that is … plain and simply you guys LOST this past November. I’m not trying to hammer home a point or even gloat but there was a resounding vote caste this past election and that voice overwealming stated … ENOUGH! It’s like we’ve come out of the darkness into the light.
Your comment (quoted below) somehow fails to realize that there is an ever diminishing number of the electorate that subscribe to the so-called principles (aka scare tactics) that had worked for the Grand Old Party in years past. Yes you still have your base but it appears to be locked into a “just say no mentality” as the rest of us look forward to a new beginning (a renaissance if you will) under President Obama. Your comment follows:
“I am sending this out to all on my e-mail list to inform everyone as to what we are up against. We need to be working together now to stop the Change that is coming to America if we want to have our Nation as we know it. We need to start the work here locally and now.”
You see, having your Nation as we know it is what you worked very hard to establish over the past eight years and the message the majority sent last November is … that’s not the way we want it. You even go on by spewing tha same old “wedge issues” that most of us see as the GOP’s hit parade of yesteryear. For example, and I’m quoting you again, “The OFA is recruiting grassroots to advance Cap and Trade, Bailouts, Socialized Medicine, more gun control, increased taxes, less National Defense, the Fairness Doctrine, not to mention the social issues such as taxpayer funded abortions for overseas and here, the advancement of gay rights and I could go on…” Vic, your message (and by that I’m refering to that diminishing number within your Party) never changes. Just look at how you characterize your attempt at making a point, it’s “guns, gays and God” all over again and now you’ve added funded abortions, socialized medicine, etc. A stuck record you are.
There’s plenty of room for the two Parties to move agendas forward in a way that benefits the majority of Americans but until your Party stops being the Party of “no”, President Obama will move his agenda forward and that happens to be the same agenda supported by the vast majority in this country.
JTG - While some of your points may be partially valid, the comments that you credit to Vic are very plainly marked “From Melody Potter…”, and I’ve also seen them “From: Paul Hartling”.
“President Obama will move his agenda forward and that happens to be the same agenda supported by the vast majority in this country.”
The vast majority always supports the president during the first 100 days, let’s give it some time for the reality to sink in. Other than the hard-core socialists, this may just be an over-reaction to the disappointment of the past eight years.
“It’s like we’ve come out of the darkness and landed on the face of the sun.”
In four years there may be nothing left but a few embers.
Wtf is David Ayers?
Moving foward means re-establishing the roots that our Founding Fathers gave us. That is what most Americans want…except liberals.
This means Limited federal government. But the problem the status quo republican has is that they feel to be patriotic is to blindly accept every war the federal government chooses to get us into. But if this federal government goes unchecked they become a tyrant to other countries.
I was taught that my rights end where yours begins. I believe America should take that same stance in the world. Our rights as America ends where another nations borders begins. That is what Ron Paul means by a humble foregn policy.
There is a time for war, but we don’t have the right to treaspass on a nation that is NOT attacking us, like Iraq, and destroy that government. Even if they are a bad government.
We do not have the monetary means to POLICE the whole world. We DO have the monetary means to defend our borders from real attacks. WE are becoming bandrupt trying to police the world instead of focusing.
I think that is what most Americans want. Limited government in all areas so that we can pursue happiness and prosperity. Keep the fruits of our labor from being overtaxed and so forth.
JTG wrote: “…until your party stops being the party of “no”…”
If being in the party of “no” means saying “no” to socialism, then please sign me up for the party of “no”.
If being in the party of “no” means saying “no” to environmental policies based soley on a theory that will destroy the energy industry and cause the cost of electricity to triple, then please sign me up for the party of “no”.
If being in the party of “no” means saying “no” to tax policies that punish achievement and confiscate the earnings of those who make the country work, then please sign me up for the party of “no”.
If being in the party of “no” means saying “no” to the federal government redistributing the wealth of the nation from those who produce to those who produce nothing, then please sign me up for the party of “no”.
If being in the party of “no” means saying “no” to a foreign policy that apologizes for supposed American arrogance and appeases anti-American dictators, the please sign me up for the party of “no”.
If being in the party of “no” means saying “no” to releasing classified memos revealing the interrogation techniques that have been most effective in obtaining information that has prevented terrorist attacks on our country, then please sign me up for the party of “no”.
JTG, as I have written here before, moving toward these goals; especially 20th century style socialism, is not “moving forward”. There is nothing progressive about what your President wants to do. It’s not hope, it’s not new, and it’s only change for the worse. This nation cannot and will not prosper under a nanny government that is so large it can give us anything we want but also large enough to take everything we have.
…and if 53% of voters voted for these things, (which is highly doubtful considering your President’s sliding poll numbers), then 53% of voters are WRONG, just as you are.
This being the last post I’ll make on this site. B.k. and myself have laid out 2 view points. Post #26 and #27.
I’ve reflected the view points of the new class of voters, mostly conservatives and ex-republicans.
B.k. has illustrated the arrogance of what has become the Repbulcian party. Hard-nosed, bull headed and ignorant. I’ll say that you will continue to lose elections with that illustration he just gave you, and rightfully so. That is why I’m no longer considering myself a Republican.
Compare our 2 posts and take notes. See what happens over the course of time in future elections. The independent movement is NOT a party but a seperation from PARTYLINE politics. It is changing American History as we speak.
That is the CHANGE that people REALLY wanted. They just thought Obama was going to give it to them but they were wrong. We want seperation for Party Line Politics back to the vision of the founding father and the constitution. Without it we are just another nation headed for tyranny.
Take this advice or leave it. But there is not any other point I can make about CHANGEWV anymore.
I hope that you really do want to CHANGE West Virginia.
God Bless
It has been fun.
So I assume that Aaron considers opposition to big government socialism and a weak foreign policy to be “hard-nosed, bullheaded, and ignorant”. Interesting.
…and he has the gall to refer to himself as a conservative. Amazing.

Funny, I seem to seem to recall that the Democrats LOST several times in the past…1984, 1994, etc. I don’t remember liberals deciding that they therefore had some moral duty to comply with policies they didn’t agree with. So why do you feel that conservatives have a moral duty to help Obama?
And as always, I have to laugh when a liberal rants about “wedge issues;” to liberals, a “wedge issue” is one where they know the majority of Americans are against them (e.g., gay marriage, gun control) and therefore they desperately do everything they can to keep such issues out of the public discourse. They can’t renounce such issues without alienating a lot of liberals, but they don’t want to advocate them either, because they’re losers, so they get labeled “wedge issues” with the hope that they’ll just go away. If Obama represents the future and majority of America, then why, pray tell, has he thrown gun control and gay marriage supporters (and while we’re at it, anti-war activists) under the bus?
To Jawn — whether I should take an ounce of pride or bury my face in shame regarding possible paraphrasing of Melody Potter and/or Paul Hartling you will have the final say on that but for the record, I haven’t heard of either so no plagiarism here.
To aaron — I trust that you’ll make at least one more visit to the blogsite before signing off. If for no other reason than to say I truly appreciated your insight and commentary and will miss it. There is a voice of reason that is carried with your messages.
To B.K. — I realize it is very difficult for those of us on opposing sides of most political issues to march in lockstep but if I could convey just one point that perhaps you would cogitate w/o your typical “canned response” and that is for those of you who hold the antiquated convictions that you do, you do represent a growing faction of the Republican Party that’s swiftly becoming obsolete. This comes not just from me but also from those who, shall I say, are more centrist within your Party and realize that the Republican Party desperately needs a major overhauling to once again become a partner to the mainstream American adventure. I’ve mentioned to you previously that I share several of the values put forth by your Party but not the moral judgements that pervade much of your discourse. Most of what you put forth on this blogsite has an edge to it.
Yes, JTG, we all saw what nominating a “centrist” Republican candidate did for the party last year, didn’t we?
Also, if you believe that the values and principles I espouse are “antiquated”, then you must feel the same way about the Constitution of the United States. Conservatism is nothing more than a philosophy consisting of America’s founding principles. How sad that you believe individual liberty, property rights, and self-reliance to be “antiquated”. Would you prefer individuals sacrificing their liberty to a government in exhange for being “cared” for? Would you rather I preached the same collectivist blather as you and your President? (Don’t worry, I don’t expect you to answer these questions. You never seem to get around to answering anything.)
No, JTG, there is but one person in this discussion who is on the wrong side of the issues and of history, and that is you. You hold so fast to a disproven and defunct economic philosophy that failed miserably throughout the 20th century. See, capitalism, with all its faults, works better than socialism. Individual liberty is moral and more in line with the human spirit which naturally endeavors to be free. Human beings aren’t born to serve a collective or a strong, centralized government.
This is why the rest of us are horrified at what your President is doing. He defies the founding principles of this nation and people like you applaud him for it and insist that we all march in lockstep with him while he shreds the Constitution in the phony name of “change”.
There is nothing new about what you and Obama are preaching, JTG. It’s discredited collectivism and America needs to learn the lesson and evolve beyond it. We’re better than that.
To EB — Somehow either you, B.K. and others are missing the points I’m attempting to convey or I’m failing to make them succinctly. To the contrary, “wedge issues” have been a source of strength for your Party in recent elections because they have provided a smokescreen for the Republicans since they frequently polarize with the Democrats in addressing issues that poll strongly among the electorate. I suppose I can appreciate that the fact that you appear willing to go down fighting for a cause of “just say no to the prevailing interests of our country” and, in turn, resort to the “wedgies” (or call them euphemistically “counter-issues” if you like) in order to deflect attention. There is an unnaturally strong bias on the part of many to the far right that continually stands in judgement of those whose lifestyle (for instance) differs from what you consider the “righteous norm”. It not the “differ” that many find disturbing, it’s the fact that you feel compelled to place issues such as gay and lesbian rights, same sex marriage; stricter laws plus enforcement of existing gun control laws; embryonic stem-cell research; the unmitigated torturing of prisioners; the all but total dissolution of habeas corpus for political prisoners; and the list goes on and on as your way of defining “my way or the highway” style of goverance.
Now I certainly don’t expect you to agree with anything I’ve put forth because it’s only appropriate that we may see issues differently but unless you’ve been dwelling in the “proverbial cave” for many moons, it should come as no surprise to you that the far-right constituency of the Republican Party is dropping numbers fast.
As B.K. is so inclined to rant on and on with the same blather, to whatever interpretation he may hold of Obama’s disregard for the Constitution, I only asked what his thoughts are with regard to the reckless abandon to our Constitution during the Bush II years. It became apparent within a few months following the events of 9/11 that a cabal was establishing itself inside the Bush II administration. That inner sanctum decided that in order to accomplish its agenda, interpretation of the Constitution must be left to their discretion … so the public be damned. That, in part, is why the Republican Party needs to find a more centrist path in order to win back the hearts and votes of those who have since turned away. This is a fact … you know it, I know it, and the many who caste their votes in the last election know it as well.
I will evaluate Obama’s performance over time and if dissatisfied, my future vote will be caste elsewhere. He deserves time to make up for the many governing disappointments of the past eight years. I too don’t completely agree with the approach he’s chosen to take on some issues but this is an extremely intelligent man surrounded by extremely intelligent people so I’ll watch and observe and pass judgement somewhere down the road.
I feel ceratin that many of you will find a way to rationalize (e.g. not a “real conservative” anyway) Arlen Specter’s decision to switch to the Democratic Party but you may want to look at this a “warning shot across the bow” as more and more find it more rewarding to govern from the center rather than the extremes.
To B.K. — if you believe me to be on the wrong side of the issues, time will tell my friend, time will tell. I trust that over time his “change” of direction will reap rewards for us all.
